Hermosa Beach raised over $4,000 in May by helping the West Basin Water District
and Southwest Environmental distribute High Efficiency Toilets to area
residents. The giveaway was part of the Water District's efforts to reduce water
consumption by giving residents new 1.6 gallon per flush toilets in exchange for
their old high water use toilets. Nearly 300 toilets were returned by residents
eager to save money on their water bill and save water. LHB board members and
some of the class of 2010 helped out by getting the word out, registering
residents, loading the new toilets into cars and even unloading the old toilets,
which will be recycled and used for street paving. The money raised will go
toward LHB programs such as scholarships, community events and the leadership
class.
